Musical Play
Music is like magic to children and it is a wonderful art form that encompasses all areas of child development: physical, intellectual, social and emotional. These musical sculptures have developed over a period of time and bring a new dimension to many outdoor areas. Creating a musical play garden with a variety of sound sources is a solution for those wishing to find ways to encourage and motivate a child’s playful exploration, interpretation, and understanding of musical sound.
Wherever possible our instruments are tuned although weather conditions may affect pitch. However they will certainly allow children to release energy and channel it in creative, productive direction engaging the sense of sound and sparking imagination. Our ever increasing range of outdoor musical instruments includes a traditional glockenspiel, chimes, turtle drum, rainwheel and new tiger glockenspiel.
New in 2008, we are European distributors of of Freenotes, a range of outdoor musical instruments ideal for school playgrounds. Freenotes' playground equipment is designed to be played together effortlessly and previous knowledge of music, keys, scales or pitch is not necessary because there are no wrong notes! There is a wide range of playground instruments, including tall eye chimes, tubano drums with easily replaceable drum heads and the Amadinda, a xylophone inspired by a traditional pentatonic xylophone originating in Uganda.

The Amadinda is inspired by a traditional pentatonic xylophone originating in Uganda, the name is derived from Ama (big) and Dinda (keys). The name for the instrument, Amadinda, is given by to us by the Ganda people of central Uganda.
It has large resonating chambers that give a deep and rich tone. The bars of this instrument are made of weather resistant ipe, from sustainable sources, which performs well in an outdoor setting and stands up to hard use. The wood is highly weather resistant and sealed to increase its longevity outdoors.
The Amarinda is tuned to C major in the pentatonic scale. Overall length is five feet

Eye chimes are quite simply stunning, in both their towering appearance and their low resonant sounds.
The seven chimes are pitched two octaves below middle C, whilst the chimes themselves range in height from 1.4m to 2.7m. The chimes are made of 100mm diameter heavy-duty aluminium tube and are usually set in a horseshoe-shaped base to enable the player to experience a surround sound effect.
Whilst the chimes are usually kept together in such an arrangement to create the maximum sound effect for the children, they are nevertheless also available to buy individually

The Flying Amadinda’s thirteen 20mm by 90mm bars are suspended between a sturdy frame and its overall length is 1.8m.

The Imbarimba is a unique musical design combining elements of two classic African instruments: the Marimba (a resonated xylophone) and the Kalimba (thumb piano). The bars are arranged in the layout of the Kalimba with long bars in the middle and short bars on the ends. This allows both hands equal access to the upper and lower notes - ideal for a musical playtime!
The instrument can be wall mounted or set on a sturdy stand. The notes are entirely weatherproof and able to withstand the wear and tear of children at play.
The Imbarimba is pitched one octave above the Amadinda; together they make the perfect partnership.
