Sensory Planters

Hand Made Places are able to supply a variety of planters and raised beds to suit the needs of your school. The combination of strong formal structures with carefully selected planting to revitalise and stimulate the senses can transform any playground.

We are happy to assist in selecting the most appropriate area for the planters based on accessibility, amount of sunshine, availability of nearby water, and resolution of any security issues that need to be addressed. Planters can be of varying height so that gardeners in wheelchairs can reach into them easily.

We can if desired, create planters that offer a heightened sensory experience. Whenever possible we encourage children to get involved in the planting and maintenance of their ‘gardens’. Their interest and senses are stimulated by encouraging them to touch, smell and if appropriate taste a variety of carefully selected plants. Favourites include sage, lavender, curry plant, rosemary, stachys with its silky lambs ears and various grasses with their feathery heads!

Children take pride in their accomplishments as they watch their gardens grow and flourish. A great way to catch children’s imagination and get them interested in the garden.
