Special Needs

Hand Made Places and SEN schools working together in partnership.

Hand Made Places has created numerous customised playgrounds for special needs schools across the UK. Committed to working in partnership with its clients, HMP prides itself on developing play areas which perfectly match the needs of the pupils, but which also provide a stimulating and challenging environment.

Our consultants are keen to acquire an insight into the school’s ethos and how it works at all levels, over and above its ground development requirements. This assists the design team to understand the persona, values and ideals of the school, all of which can then be transferred across into their designs. Where ever possible HMP tries to encourage the active involvement of all the school’s stakeholders in the project, from pupils and staff, to parents and governors.
Experts across many disciplines are also called upon throughout the design process. The advice of occupational therapists is often sought over issues relating to mobility and wheelchair skills, and experts in behaviour disorders and working with autistic children are also referred to for guidance.

Taking advice from the experts means that play equipment designed by HMP works at all levels – activities are included which stimulate the senses, but it is also imperative that the equipment provides the pupils with climbing and physical challenges.
