Playday with Hand Made Places.
It’s #Playday! And this year is a very special year! #Playday is celebrating its 30th birthday, that’s 30 years of helping children across the UK to engage in play. #Playday is held on the first Wednesday of August, and aims to get children playing all day. The campaign encourages parents to take their children to one of the special #Playday events. There are more than 850 events all over the UK, so you are bound to find one near you!
What is #Playday?
#Playday is a national campaign that was set up in 1987, to help stop the loss of children’s play centres and playgrounds in London. Though the campaign started exclusively in London, it has expanded and quickly become a national campaign spreading awareness of the benefits of play.
Every child has the right to play, and #Playday wants to celebrate this right. Public parks and playgrounds allow all children the opportunity to experience outdoor play. However, with government cuts meaning that parks and playgrounds across the UK are closing down, it is essential that we show support for #Playday. By supporting #Playday we can help to spread awareness of how play is beneficial for children and their development, therefore ensuring that every child can exercise their right to play.
Play is essential for a child’s development. One of the biggest benefits lies in the fact that play is a form of physical activity. Children need at least one hour of physical activity per day to ensure a healthy lifestyle. Active play can provide that hour, and more. Not only does active play give children their daily exercise, it also aids in emotional development too. With #Playday children are encouraged to go out into the community and join in with social events. This means that with #Playday children are developing their communication and social skills, as well as developing a love for the community in which they live.
Where does Hand Made Places come in?
At Hand Made Places we encourage outdoor play year round with a range of high quality play equipment, as well as canopies and shelters to protect children from the weather. Be it rain or shine we believe outdoor play is essential to child development. #Playday’s national campaign aims to spread awareness of the benefits of play, through encouraging communities to hold play events. #Playday allows all children to play for one full day.
Hand Made Places design, manufacture and install play equipment in schools, parks, leisure attractions and nurseries all over the UK. Our equipment is great fun for children and also supplies them with a vast amount of health benefits. Play Units like the bespoke Chute Play Unit that we installed at Penn Wood Primary and Nursery School offers a full body workout whilst allowing the children to have plenty of fun! Play units are great for encouraging play on #Playday! With the mix of fun activities like the Traverse Wall and Wobble Bridge, children can learn to overcome challenges whilst interacting with other children. This encourages team work whilst also enhancing their social skills.
Hand Made Places and #Playday share the same aim. We want to encourage children all over the UK to engage in outdoor play, and to spread awareness of the benefits that outdoor play has on a child’s physical and emotional health. So join in on one of the many events being held today to encourage more children to engage in play, not just today, but every day.
