Hand Made Places have designed, manufactured and installed a range of playground equipment pieces for Thorntree Primary School in Middlesbrough.

The installed equipment needed to be spread over the entirety of the school and provide fun and interesting play spaces for all children attending the school. This spanned from Key Stage 1 up to Key Stage 2.

The diversity of the equipment installed means that pupils can enjoy a wide range of different types of play. From imaginative play to physical play, and in addition to this, the installation of outdoor classrooms mean that children can enjoy learning through play too!

So let’s take a look at what was installed for pupils at Thorntree Primary School.

Firstly Hand Made Places installed the Extra Large and Large Sand Pit. These two play areas allow for different types of play for a range of different ages. Younger children can use the sand pits to display certain schemas, helping to aid in EYFS development.

Older children can learn about movement, and look at how different animals and objects make certain tracks in the soft sand.

In addition to these sand pits, also amongst the installed equipment was the Barge and Longboat outdoor classrooms. These brilliant spaces give teachers a designated space to teach, whilst also being surrounded by a fun, themed environment! Not only this, with the additional installation of the Sea Monster play sculpture you really can create a full imaginative world.

Children can read books such as Peter Pan and truly immerse themselves in this world of pirates and mermaids. Find out more about themed playgrounds here.

In addition to this, the Millers Pond Climb-around, Play Den and Jungle Treehouse have been installed. These pieces not only have elements of imaginative play, with fun themed areas, but they also combine this with active play elements too. Meaning exercise has never been more fun for pupils.

Another play area which was added to this school playground was a fantastic Trim Trail.

This excellent equipment is perfect for KS2 pupils, and helps to get children moving in a fun and enjoyable way.

The trim trail installed includes the following equipment:

Finally, Hand Made Places installed the Holey Poles and Kolus Totem. These provide the opportunity for both creative and imaginative play.
