Case Study: Barley Croft Primary School – Playground Equipment
Barley Croft Primary School – Playground Equipment
Barley Croft had a large underused and under resourced tarmac and grass play area across both Key Stage 1 & 2.
Children lacked challenges, imagination and inspiration in their play. Hand Made Places were asked to provide a complete overhaul of the main play areas to redress this issue.
The key requirement for KS2 was to provide physical activity and for KS1 was to have an imaginative area and have a physical climbing unit of some description.
The location and type of children’s climbing equipment was essential to the project because of the need to ensure visibility as a part of the outdoor supervision. Large willow structures and embankments needed landscaping to allow this to happen.
We used a combination of Hand Made Places and Playline Design products to achieve the schools aspirations .
The Amazon rope climber was chosen as the physical climbing unit as this piece has large quantities of ropework in its structure rather than timber uprights and platforms.
“We worked alongside Hand Made Places on our playground improvements and are delighted with the outcome. The playground designer listened to our needs and provided several solutions in restructuring and zoning the playground to improve the quality of play. Our children are now challenged physically on the climbing equipment, can use their imagination in the model village area or unleash their dramatic side on stage! Hand Made Places understand how children play and the importance of providing quality products that will last. We are looking forward to working with them again on our next project!” – Emily Percival (Deputy Head)
