A toddler play park has been given a new lease of life thanks to the efforts of community minded parents.
Hand Made Places was selected to inject some fun into the play area at Hatherleigh Community Centre, near Okehampton, South Devon.
Mum-of-six Donna Lewis joined Hatherleigh Town Council to spearhead the revamp and worked with fellow parent and teacher Adam Hill to secure funding for the project.
The park, for under fives, now has areas for active and imaginative play as well as improved safety surfacing and sensory boards.
At the heart of the play area is Action Station III which incorporates a wide range of features including a fireman’s pole, slide, ramp and tunnel.
An ageing wooden train was replaced with a new timber tractor and cart, crafted at our UK workshop.
And as well as providing shade and shelter from the elements, a play den doubles up as a safe place for role play and taking time out.
Existing swings and a climbing frame were incorporated into the design of the new play park to ensure best value for our clients.
Funding was secured through a number of sources including the National Lottery, community crowdfunding, Hatherleigh Town Council and neighbourhood committees.
An additional grant meant the park now also benefits from artificial grass and bound rubber mulch surfacing making the whole area much more accessible and available for use during the winter months.
Three finger maze activity panels were also installed by Hand Made Places, offering sensory and interactive play elements for children of all ages and abilities.
The result is a safe play park tailored to the needs of under fives and their parents to be enjoyed by the community for generations.
