Pathfield School is based in Barnstaple, North Devon. Its pupils are 3 to 19 year olds who have learning differences such as autism.
We are particularly proud to say that staff at this SEN school were impressed with our play equipment; they took an interest in collaborating with us, in order to further enhance their excellent work!
School bursar, Debbie Stokes, invited us to look at the proposed area with the intention of creating a play area suitable for the older children at the school.
At this stage, due to a fairly recent school extension, the space really was something of a blank canvas: a large, tarmac playground surrounded by grassy banks. In order to make the most of the undulating space, it was clear that a bespoke approach was needed.
Our design included a custom-made ’embankment trail’ consisting of:
- lots of ropes challenges of various styles;
- two large slides running down the steep bank;
- a spinning dish;
- a ‘Fireball’ ball game;
- a quiet seating area;
- a thermo plastic road track;
- a wheelchair accessible planter.
The result was a real transformation, with SEN play equipment which ensures inclusivity for all pupils. The young people can now enjoy a wide variety of experiences in the safe, happy environment of their very own playground!
