Case Study: Townhill Infant School, Southampton

Townhill Infant School, Southampton

Deputy Head Sarah Baylis contacted Hand Made Places in January and we were invited to school to discuss plans for developing their playground. Sarah had a long term plan to develop the grounds which had begun with the installation of some play tyres and the next phase was a climbing structure for the playground. The children had expressed an interest in having either a pirate ship or a castle, after having a look through our standard range we decided that the best option would be a bespoke unit as the main feature with some standard adventure trail pieces to maximise the play value.  Our creation was the ‘Townhill Castle’ featuring a slide, fireman’s pole, bridges, nets and a crest with the schools logo engraved on it. Surrounded by coloured wet pour surfacing the result was a very striking, fun and physically challenge play area for the children.

The children (and staff!) love the design and are all very excited about it. Our current Year Twos have asked if they can come back and play on it when they are in the Juniors. Thank you also for your professionalism, keeping to appointment dates, submitting the design promptly and for staying in contact without any pressure!  Sarah Baylis Deputy Head
