Case Study: Downe Manor School, Middlesex

Downe Manor School, Middlesex

We were contacted by Downe Manor School at the end of 2012, having worked with them on two previous projects to develop their Early Years and Nursery areas we were delighted to be invited back to look at the key stage 1 and 2 playgrounds.

New Head Teacher Laura Morgan had big plans for the school and we set about discussing ideas and producing plans. The grounds were extensive but there was little more in them for the 5 – 11 year olds than a few benches. Laura wanted to ensure that some much needed children’s climbing equipment was provided, an adventure trail was installed for the younger children and a climb around unit for key stage 2.  A range of shaded seating and performance areas were also fitted throughout the grounds which the children use for outdoor learning and also in their own free time. Finally we covered a huge muddy mound with approximately 500sqm of artificial grass, this has now become a very popular spot for all sorts of fun and games!

Working with Handmade Places has been an absolute pleasure from beginning to end. From the initial meeting to the finished installation, everything was delivered on time to the highest possible standard. The children love the new equipment and it has transformed our outside space. I would have no hesitation in recommending Handmade Places.  Laura Morgan Head Teacher
