Varndean is a unique school located in Brighton, and contains four smaller schools within the main school itself. These individual schools allow for smaller tutor groups and each has its own Head of School, Deputy Head and School Leader.

As part of a Public Funded Initiative (PFI) the schools’ Architect initially approached us having seen our amphitheatre at St Margaret’s Lee School in Lewisham. They wanted to create a fun, outdoor performance area which was light, airy, functional and had a natural look / feel to it.

We set about working with the architects and the school to create a bespoke amphitheatre, which fulfilled all of these requirements.

We provided a bespoke timber framed amphitheatre with canopy roof sections; along with a bespoke timber performance stage complete with sail canopy and anti slip decking and electrical works. Artificial grass surfacing was also provided to enhance the surrounding area.

Once completed we were delighted to have been invited to the Amphitheatre’s Grand Opening, which presented an array of talent from the school featuring dance, drama and musical entertainment; including music from the schools very own Gamelan ensemble!
