Case Study: YMCA Sovereign Centre, Reigate – Play Area

YMCA Sovereign Centre, Reigate – Play Area

The YMCA Sovereign Centre in Reigate is a dedicated centre for children and young people. The centre hosts a range of local services for children under 5 and holiday schemes for young people and children with disabilities.

They required a complete play area, suitable to be used by anyone up to the age of 16; all with varying capabilities.

The area needed to provide sensory, active and imaginative play elements, as well as DDA accessible playground equipment. There was also an issue of lack of shade and secure storage for their external furniture and play items.

Although the playground was fully enclosed, there were still issues with the general public accessing the site, therefore all products needed to be relatively vandal resistant. The site itself was sloped and access was restricted.

We provided various items of inclusive play equipment including a bespoke play unit, DDA accessible roundabout, water play features and outdoor musical instruments.

To ensure a safe play environment both artificial grass and wet pour surfacing was provided; and a wooden shed gave them the extra storage space needed.

To give protection against harmful UV rays we provided a Triangle Keep it Kool shade sail; a stylish Shade Sail manufactured using heavy duty knitted HDPE shade cloth and galvanised steel poles.
