Playground Surfacing

At Hand Made Places we offer a wide range of playground flooring, safety surfaces and playground markings. All of our playground surfaces conform to the BS EN 1177 standard.

Safety flooring for playgrounds provides both an impact-absorbing surface and can be used to create an imaginative element to any playscape. Our playground surfacing can be designed to maximise its role within the playscape and provide added play value. Playground flooring can be used to create a complete themed play area to encourage imaginative play. It can create a welcoming environment for inclusive play and it can be used to make playgrounds more accessible for those with mobility aids.

Impact-absorbing, soft surfacing is essential for all play equipment with a free fall height of 0.6 metres and above. They type of surface and the size of the installation area can depend on factors including the critical fall height of the playground equipment, site conditions, the type of user visiting the playground and the number of users.

Coloured wet pour surfacing requires low maintenance and can be creatively used to create a colourful playground, such as marking out rivers, ponds and roads for imaginative play. It can also form pathways through the playground for increased accessibility and structure in an outdoor space. UV exposure should be considered when choosing wet pour as colour fastness of the surfacing can vary in UV light.

Bonded playground rubber mulch also comes in a variety of colours but offers a different texture to wetpour. It can complement existing surfacing whilst enabling year round use of the space. It should be noted that any colour coating will wear off over time and expose the natural black rubber, which may result in transfer onto clothing and hands on contact.

Artificial grass is now one of our clients’ favourite playground surfaces. This provides a great year round usable space with minimum amount of maintenance that results in a natural look. Safety pads can be installed under the grass to create the necessary safety properties enjoyed by the wet pour option. We also offer the traditional grass matting, to preserve existing natural grass playground areas as well as a natural hardwood chips option. Play carpet is a very vibrant and inviting surface.
