Windmill Primary School, Northampton, officially opened their new EYFS outdoor learning area in November 2016, after it underwent a major overhaul.

A bespoke timber monopitch shelter clad with multiwall polycarbonate with colourful translucent vinyl applied to it creates a fun and colourful outdoor classroom on sunny days, perfect for an EYFS setting. The vinyl roller blinds with clear panels allow children to see outside, and let the light in, whilst keeping wind and rain out.

Alongside this outdoor classroom a Forest Story House was installed to create an outdoor quiet reading area, for children to engage in storytelling and communication with one another.

A wide variety of playground equipment was also installed to provide an engaging area for children to learn through play. Items include a Chalk and Dry Wipe board for outdoor learning and to let pupil’s creativity shine through.

A wooden petrol pump structure combined with safety road marking is ideal for imaginative and role play, when children use bikes, trikes or mini cars.

Other playground equipment used includes a Tufnell activity Centre, Petal Drum, Extra Large Sandpit, Dragonfly Sculpture and a Lumberjack Ladder.

Bound rubber mulch and wet pour surfacing was used to create a safety surface across the outdoor learning area.

The whole outdoor area has been transformed into a vibrant playground for children to play and learn all year round.
